Yaka Andu Ella Falls ( Yaka Handu Ella)

Located in the Sri Pada range, the "Yaka Andu Ella" (Yaka Handu Ella) waterfall is approximately 60 meters high and can be viewed from the Japanese Peace Pagoda on the Sri Pada route through Nallatanniya. The waterfall cascades down a rock surface that is tilted at an angle of about 60 degrees.

The name of the waterfall translates to "crying demon fall" in English. According to local folklore, a powerful demon king once ruled this area when the Buddha visited Sri Pada and left his footprint. The demon king was so upset about losing his land to the Buddha that he cried tears of sorrow, which formed a waterfall. This is why it is named "Yaka Andu Ella" (Yaka Handu Ella), which means "crying demon fall."
