Kosgulana Sangili Palama
Sangili Palama is a narrow suspension bridge found across various rivers in Sri Lanka. While ancient versions used large ropes, steel cables are now used in their construction. These bridges are so narrow that only pedestrians can use them, and passing another person can be difficult due to their size. Wooden planks are laid over the cables, but many bridges suffer from a lack of maintenance, resulting in missing planks and large gaps. Walking across a Sangili Palama can be nerve-wracking as the bridge sways and bounces with each step, creating rattling noises from the cables and planks.
Peradeniya Sangili Palama across Mahaweli Ganga and Ruwanwella Sangili Palama across Kelani Ganga are among the longer and more popular suspension bridges in Sri Lanka.
