Ranmudu Ella Falls
The Balangoda Ranmudu Ella Falls is an impressive waterfall, standing 45 meters tall and 3 meters wide. It is located near the Ranmuthu River and flows down a large rock formation, providing irrigation for the nearby villages of Meddegama and Thanathiriyanwela.
Regrettably, the construction of a bridge nearby has detracted from the natural beauty of the site. Nevertheless, local villagers are still captivated by the legend that the falls were once used by the daughter of the ancient warrior King Sitawaka Rajasinhe for bathing. It is said that on one occasion, the princess lost her ring in the pool, and it was pinned to the riverbed by a large rock that fell from above.
According to rumors, King Sitawaka Rajasinhe's treasure chest may also be hidden in the area, but attempts by villagers to retrieve it have failed due to the demon that is said to guard it.
