To reach Kalthota junction, one can travel 30 km from Balangoda town and then continue on the Diyavinna road for approximately 45 km towards the southern direction, where the Budugala Rajamaha Vihara, a historically significant Buddhist sanctuary, can be found. This sanctuary is situated in Budugala village, also known as Budugale Katuwa, adjacent to the Mahawalathenna plateau. It was established during the Anuradhapura era and was under the governance of the Kalthota Kingdom, which was situated at the border of Rohana domain in ancient times.
There is an archaeology complex located on the right side of the sanctuary. According to recorded history, Prince Vikum Pandi, also known as Vikrama Pandya, arrived in Sri Lanka in 1042-1043 A.D. and ruled over Kalthota for one year. The area is rich in ruins of his court, which can still be seen today. Ven.
