Ella
This laid back very unassuming town surrounded by the mountains of Uva province and the lush greenery of tea estates has more to offer its visitors than what meets the eye. The name of the town itself means waterfall in the local lingo, and is quite rightfully surrounded by a couple of beautiful and renowned waterfalls of Sri Lanka. While the mornings here look sleepy and slow, evenings see the town come alive with foreigners and locals alike sitting at the many trendy looking bars and engrossed in conversations that look too interesting to break away from.
Ella is famous as a hub to and from Nuwaraeliya, the legendary hill country of Sri Lanka. And as a link to Kandy and the southern part of the country. Ella sits at a high elevation of 3415 Ft above sea level and hence boasts of a cooler climate than its surrounding lowlands. With its pleasant weather of around 26 degrees’ day and night, the day time excursions seem comfortable to indulge in.
