Adisham Bungalow

The Adishem Bungalow as it is called today is a beautiful and much raved about country house in the district of Badulla. Built in the year 1931, by an English Aristocrat Sir Thomas Villiers it was designed and built on 10 acres of land and housed many prominent personalities from the colonial era of Sri Lanka. It was then purchased by the Roman Catholic church and maintained as a Monastery, a congregation of St. Sylvester.

The house is now open to public and is surrounded by a lush forest called Tangamalai which in English means Golden Hills. This architectural masterpiece is at a 5,000 feet elevation. The rock like fortress sits beautifully amidst its lush greenery and is a sort of sanctuary to visitors who are in search of a serene atmosphere in the hills. Here you will encounter pieces of furniture that remind you of a time bygone. Perfectly preserved paintings and beautiful woodwork transport one in to a different Era.

Retaining its old English charm to date the monastery...
