Biso Pokuna At Galabedda

Galabedde village, located 10.5 km from Monaragala on the Pottuvil road, houses the remains of a palace complex that dates back to the 12th century A.D. This intriguing site includes sluice gate ponds, moats, ramparts, and the remnants of a palace believed to have belonged to Sugala Devi, a local princess.

The princess's pool in the palace garden is a remarkable example of ancient Sinhala architecture. Carved out of solid rock, the pool has four water inlets from four sides, and water flows through the mouth of the mythical creature, 'Makara.'

Adjacent to the pool, a beautifully crafted toilet stone, likely discovered among the ruins, adds to the site's allure.
