Tusker Raja Museum
Built to honor a majestic tusker, this museum named Tusker Raja Museum is not an ordinary museum. Located inside the Temple of the Tooth relic this is probably the only museum in the world that is dedicated to a single elephant.
Raja Tusker was a beloved tusker of the Temple of the Tooth relic. Raja participated the Esala perahera or the Esala procession in Kandy for nearly 50 years. Esala procession is one of the most colorful religion pagents in the world hosted by the Temple of the Tooth Relic. Raja was the main tusker in the process who was given the responsibility of bearing the sacred casket. This majestic tusker performed his duty magnificently. In the procession he was draped in costume studded with jewelry and his Ivory was decorated in jasmine garlands. Raja was loved locally and internationally.
