Thivanka Pilimage (Image House

King Parakramabahu (1153-1186) constructed the Thivanka Pilimage as a component of the Jethavanarama Complex. Its name, "Thivanka," is derived from the Sinhala word for "three curves," owing to the fact that the large Buddha image inside the temple is curved in three places. Like other constructions of the time, the building is made of bricks, including the statue.

The Buddha statue in the Thivanka Pilimage is approximately 8 meters tall, but the section above the head has been destroyed. Presently, the statue is 6.6 meters tall. The building is 133 feet long and 67.6 feet wide, with walls that are 7-12 feet thick, making the interior of the building significantly smaller.

The inside walls of the building are adorned with frescoes depicting the Jataka Stories (stories of the Buddha's past lives before enlightenment).
