Parakrama Samudraya
Originally, the reservoir consisted of a network of five large reservoirs, including Thopa Vawa, Eramudu Vewa, Dumbuthulu Vewa, Kalahagala Vewa, and Bhu Vewa. However, due to a structural error during reconstruction in the 19th century, water began to flow from Thopa Vewa to Bhu Vewa, creating a permanent road that isolated Kalahagala Vewa and Bhu Vewa from the rest of the reservoir.
Today, Parakrama Samudraya covers an area of 5,350 acres, with a length of 14 kilometres, a height of 40 feet, and an average depth of 25 feet. It supports over 18,000 acres of paddy land and remains an important source of water for agriculture in the region. Despite the loss of some of i...
