Palace of King Nissanka Malla

The ruins of the palace of Nissanka Malla and the Audience Hall of King Nissanka Malla can be found behind the current Polonnaruwa Rest House. It is believed that this palace complex was mainly constructed using bricks during the reign of King Nissanka Malla (1187-1196), hence there is very little left of it. Historians suggest that the palace might have been a two-storied building, with the upper floor likely to be made of wood.

In comparison to the palace of King Maha Parakramabahu (1153-1186), which is located approximately 1 km away from this site and had seven stories and 1000 rooms, this palace would have been much smaller.
