Old Clock Tower Lighthouse

Although no longer in use as a lighthouse, the Old Clock Tower still stands as a striking monument, situated at the intersection of Chatham Street and Janadhipathi Mawatha (formerly known as Queens Road) in Colombo Fort. The location served as a lighthouse station as far back as 1829, with the tower originally constructed as a clock tower in 1860. By 1865, the navigational light had been moved to the tower. The original clock, manufactured by the same company as Big Ben, was replaced in 1913.

However, the lighthouse was eventually decommissioned in 1952 due to the nearby buildings obstructing its light, and a new lighthouse was built at Galbokka Point, Colombo. Despite no longer being operational, the Old Clock Tower Lighthouse remains an important historical and architectural landmark
