Though small in size, the Martello Tower in Hambantota is also a notable defence watchtower. Located at the tip of the seaside promontory, visitors to this historic seaport town will easily spot it next to the lighthouse.
This tower is a remnant of the colonial era, originally thought to be a Dutch fortification but actually built by Capt. Goper of the British Army Engineers.
