The Lotus Tower, also known as the Colombo Lotus Tower, is a towering structure located in Colombo, Sri Lanka, with a height of 350 m (1,150 ft). The tower is considered a symbolic landmark of the country and is primarily used for communication, observation, and leisure activities. It is the tallest self-supported structure in South Asia and the second tallest structure in South Asia after the INS Kattabomman in India, and it ranks as the 11th tallest tower in Asia and the 19th tallest tower in the world.
Initially proposed to be built in the suburb of Peliyagoda, the Sri Lankan government later decided to change the location to the heart of Colombo, where the tower stands on the waterfront of Beira Lake. The tower, which was estimated to cost USD 113 million, was constructed by the China National Electronics Import & Export Corporation (CEIEC) and Aerospace Long March International Trade Co. Ltd (ALIT), following the signing of the contract in January 2012.
