Kithsirimewan Kelaniya - Egoda Kelaniya

In the eighth year after his Enlightenment, Lord Buddha visited Kelaniya with his followers on a Vesak poya day at the invitation of the Naga King Maniakkhika, as chronicled in the Mahavamsa and Dipavamsa. The king then built Kelaniya Raja MahaViharaya, enshrining the jeweled throne on which Lord Buddha preached Dhamma to the King and his followers. Kithsirimewan Raja Maha Viharaya, also known as Megoda Pansala, is a lesser-known temple near Kelaniya Raja MahaViharaya, dating back to pre-500 BCE. It is believed that Lord Buddha bathed in the Kelani river before leaving for Siripada with his followers and that his bathing robe is enshrined in the sivurudageba stupa in Kithsirimewan Raja MahaViharaya. The stupa was originally built by Naga King Maniakkhika and restored by King Kithsirimewan or Kirthi Sri Meghawanna.
