Hoods Tower Naval Museum

Located on a high ridge overlooking the entrance to the inner harbor of Trincomalee within the Sri Lanka Navy Dockyard, the Hoods Tower Naval Museum showcases the remarkable history of the Sri Lanka Navy up to the end of the defeat of the LTTE Terrorists. The museum gains its name from the Hoods Tower, an observation tower built by the British that provides a panoramic view of the harbor entrance.

At the museum's entrance, old cannons excavated from the ground or recovered from the sea are displayed, reflecting the fortifications built by European colonialists to protect the island's lucrative spice trade and to fend off attacks by the Sinhalese of the Kandyan Kingdom or competing European trading companies.
