Bellanwila – Attidiya Bird Sanctuary
The most popular trail starts near the information center and continues through the marsh, alongside the Bolgoda canal on to the opposite side of the park boundary towards the Attidiya road.
There have been around 166 bird species spotted, out of which 40 species of birds are migratory. 71 types of butterflies and 44 species of fish have been recorded from the site, making it a park that's rich with biodiversity.
The rare birds inhabiting the marsh are the Indian Shag, the Blue Breasted Banded Tail and the Ruddy Crake. Other rare visitors including the Spot Billed Pelican, White Ibis, painted stork and the elusive Glossy Ibis are believed by bird-watchers to be migratory.
