Baobab Tree

On the Delft Island stands the impressive Baobab tree, which is the largest tree on the island. Its hollow trunk stands tall at 52 feet, spacious enough to accommodate three individuals at once, with an entrance wide enough for two people to pass through. The Baobab tree belongs to the genus Adansonia, which consists of nine species of trees. Of these, six species are native to Madagascar, two species are native to Africa and the Arabian Peninsula, while one species is native to Australia. It is believed that during the Colonial Era, one species of African origin was introduced to some Asian countries, and the Baobab tree on Delft Island is believed to be one such introduction.
