Nissanka Latha Mandapaya

Nissanka Latha Mandapaya is a square building situated in the Dalada Maluwa area of the ancient kingdom of Polonnaruwa and is surrounded by a fine rock-cut railing. Built by King Nissanka Malla (1187-1196), this building served as a place where he could listen to Buddhist scriptures or worship the Tooth Relic.

The unique feature of this building is the shape and carvings of its stone pillars. The pillars are carved in the shape of a lotus stalk and are curved in three places, with the top taking the form of a lotus flower. The entire building is fenced with a stone fence.

At the centre of the platform, between the stone columns, stands a small stupa made of stone, which unfortunately has lost its top part. Its base is adorned with carved designs.
