Elamaldeniya Temple -

Elamaldeniya Raja Maha Viharaya is a serene and ancient temple that lies about 18 km away from Morawaka town and 8 km from Pitabeddara town. The temple is believed to have been built during the 2nd century BC by King Saddhatissa, who ruled the ancient Rohana kingdom from 161 to 137 BC as a prince. Built on a rocky hill isolated from human habitation, the temple is attributed to the Anuradhapura Era.

Upon reaching the temple premises, you can spot the chethiya (stupa) far away on another mountaintop. To get there, you need to climb down over 200 steps. At the bottom, you'll find a refreshing water stream. Cross the stream and begin the climb up the next hill. The steps are made out of granite and have been well laid, ensuring your safety as you make your way up.
