Sithulpawwa

Sithulpawwa is an ancient Buddhist monastery located in the Hambantota District of Sri Lanka. It is believed to have been founded in the 2nd century BCE, during the reign of King Kavantissa. The monastery is situated on a hill and is known for its impressive stupa, which is believed to have been constructed during the Anuradhapura period.
Sithulpawwa is also famous for its rock cave temples, which feature well-preserved ancient frescoes and statues of the Buddha. The monastery is considered an important pilgrimage site for Buddhists, as it is believed to have been visited by the Buddha himself during his third visit to Sri Lanka.
Today, Sithulpawwa remains an important site for both religious and historical reasons and attracts a large number of visitors each year.
