Kataragama
The city has a long and rich history, with evidence of human settlement in the area dating back to at least the 5th century BCE. It has been an important religious site for over 2,000 years and has been visited by many important figures throughout history, including the Hindu sage Agastya and the Buddhist king Dutugemunu.
Today, Kataragama is home to several important religious sites, including the Kataragama Temple, which is dedicated to Lord Murugan, the Hindu god of war and victory, and is considered one of the most important shrines dedicated to Lord Murugan outside of India. The city is also home to several other Hindu and Buddhist temples and shrines, as well as a large mosque and a church.
