Kataragama Devalaya

The Kataragama Devalaya, also known as the Kataragama Temple, is a revered Hindu-Buddhist shrine located in the southern town of Kataragama, Sri Lanka. It is one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Sri Lanka and attracts thousands of devotees from all over the island and beyond each year.
The temple is dedicated to Lord Murugan, the Hindu god of war and victory, and is considered one of the most important shrines dedicated to Lord Murugan outside of India. The temple complex includes several buildings, including a main shrine dedicated to Lord Murugan, as well as shrines dedicated to other Hindu gods and Buddhist deities.

In addition to its religious significance, the Kataragama Temple is also known for its rich history and cultural heritage. According to local legends, the temple has been in existence for over 2,000 years and has been visited by many important figures throughout history, including the Hindu sage Agastya and the Buddhist king Dutugemunu.
