All kinds of paintings of different kinds of animals, birds, and other creatures drawn by upcountry artists are found here. Among them are the pictures of elephants, horses, and also dragons, and there are peculiar drawings of pictures like Gajasingha” design of an elephant of which the head portion is that of an elephant and the body part is that of a lion. These are all just imaginary creations of artists. Many other paintings of strange pictures can be seen here. As they are not drawn on leveled smoothed walls, a great effort has to be made to observe them.
Rideevihāra is one of five great Raja Mahā Vihāras (great royal temples) in which the king took a personal interest.
