Galkanumandiya Ruins

After passing Debarawewa Menik Vehera and heading towards Tissamaharama, you will reach an area called Galkanumandiya, which gets its name from a group of enormous granite pillars located 200 meters away from the Menik Vehera Stupa. Although the use of granite in large buildings is common in Anuradhapura, it is rare in the southern region.

It is thought that this building was once part of the monastic complex to which Menik Vehera belonged in ancient times. A nearby rock pillar inscription called Ethabendigala has been dated back to the 1st and 2nd centuries, indicating that this massive structure was likely built around the same time.
