Dambulla
Dambulla is a town located in Matale of Central Province. It is situated 160 kilometers away from Colombo and is best known for housing the largest and best preserved cave temple complex. Dambulla is also a commercial town with the Sri Lanka’s largest produce market due to its location.
Dambulla is quite a small town but it offers many interesting places that are worth visiting. The Golden Temple is one site and this is located right in the city which is impossible to miss. This temple has a massive 30 meter high golden statue of Lord Buddha. The statue is very eye-catchy and can be seen from a distant due to its color and size. This temple is also called the Dambulla Cave temple. The caves of the temple are located on the Dambulla rock. There are 5 caves which contain statues and mesmerizing paintings relating to Buddhism. The temple houses 153 Buddha statues, 3 statues of Sri Lankan kings and 4 statues of gods and goddesses.
