Alawala Devin Panna Ella Falls

The 45 meter tall Alawala Devin Panna Ella Falls (also known as "Dunumala Ella" and "Uduwaka Ella") is located in Atakalan Korale, adjacent to Makandura village in the Hingurugalkande area. The surrounding area is known to have many historically significant places.

Out of the three caves located in the area, one of it which is half a kilometer long, is said to lead to the town of Ratnapura, according to the residents. However, more importantly, the other caves are believed to have been used as homes by King Vijayabahu the 3rd. The 5 holes seen on the rock near the waterfall are believed to be where the queens have engaged in a game called "Panchi." The deep pool close to the falls, called “Alipalawalla” is where the elephants were brought for their share of a dip. It is said that this waterfall never dries out, even during long spells of drought.
