Tangalle
Tangalle is home to a significant fishing port, located on one of the biggest bays in Sri Lanka, which is shielded from the ocean by a reef. The town is a popular holiday destination and a hub for tourism on the south coast. The old Dutch fort in the town center now serves as a prison. Tangalle was an important anchorage for the Dutch and later the British on the southern coast of the island. The Dutch Fort, Rest House, and Court House are some of the remaining examples of Dutch architecture in Tangalle.
