Bathalagoda Wewa Reservoir

The sheer beauty surrounding us was beyond capture, with pale sunbeams illuminating the crack of dawn and the yawning palms swaying lazily in the cold wind. The grassy banks of Bathalgoda Wewa were lifeless, and the steel-blue water fringed with misty mountains was eerily silent.

As we watched the stunning pink and silver hues of the horizon, a kirala's sudden call shattered the morning's fragility, and we soon saw the culprit flying towards us. The power of these moments was profound, with desolate loneliness, sensuous beauty, and spiritual depth converging to create a transient light charged with the mysteries of hidden life.

Motorcycles and bicycles soon appeared, awakening the bund of the wewa with the people it sustained, prompting us to continue our journey to a destination many kilometres away. Interestingly, "Ancient Ceylon" by Hendry Parker sheds light on Bathalagoda Wewa's historic significance and the city it served.
