Kudiramalai Point (Thambapanni)
Thambapanni, also known as Kudiramalai, is an ancient sea port situated on the western coast within the Wilpattu National Park. The Kuveni Maligawa and Kudiramalai Point in the park are home to historical palaces and ruins of royalty from the past, such as princes and queens. The Wilpattu jungle contains many significant historical sites, with former palaces serving as homes to wild animals. The water-filled villus that were once utilized by the queens now provide bathing ponds for crocodiles and water birds. Queen Kuveni is believed to have lived in the Kuveni Maligawa site, and the nearby Kali villu was used for storing pure water for the queen. The coastal region surrounding Kudiramalai is home to the white-bellied sea eagle, and the Maila villu is the second-largest in Wilpattu. The Kudiramalai Point provides a breathtaking panoramic view of the Indian Ocean with a steep slope descending about 50 feet into the sea.
