Kitulgala
Kitulgala, a small town located in the western region of Sri Lanka, is situated in the wet zone rainforest, which receives two monsoons annually, making it one of the wettest regions in the country. Despite this, the town thrives during the first three months of the year, particularly in February, which happens to be the driest month. The Academy Award-winning film, The Bridge on the River Kwai, was shot on the Kelani River near Kitulgala. The concrete foundations for the bridge are the only remnants of the film set, along with the submerged train cars from the climactic scene. Kitulgala is also a popular hub for white-water rafting, which begins a few kilometres upstream, and is a location for adventure-based training programs.
