Amphibia

The Sinharaja rainforest offers an ideal habitat for a diverse range of amphibians. According to Kelum Manamendra Arachchi, who has spent a considerable amount of time studying Sinharaja, half of Sri Lanka's amphibian population and half of its endemic amphibians can be found in this forest.

Kelum and Rohan Pethiyagoda, through their research, have discovered numerous new frog species in Sinharaja and are expected to find even more. Sadly, it is highly likely that many species of amphibians have already gone extinct, even before humans were aware of their existence. Kelum and Rohan have published a well-researched book in Sinhala on the amphibians found in Sinharaja.
